Okay. I haven’t bought anyone presents yet. I’m ridiculously bad at that and mailing things (Online bill pay is my shining light and savior). The great thing about DIY is that it makes it easy to make a personalized last minute DIY gift for the unexpected +1, a co-worker you didn’t realize you were on that level with, or you just don’t realize that holy crap it’s already December 21st. There are a couple of different types of gifts and I’ll cover a bit of everything. These last minute DIY gifts will be sure to please.
People have very different ideas on what entails a gift. Fitzi thinks that a gift is something that the gifter thinks up (or chooses from a list) and it is a surprise. I think a gift is anything I don’t necessarily want to purchase myself and ask to be given. I told mom I wanted an immersion blender. I got an immersion blender (Thanks mom!). I’ve met someone who believes that a gift has to be something like jewelry or some other trinket; socks would be a terrible gift for her. However, I have given my mom some fun socks for several Christmases and she has been exceedingly pleased with them every time.
Ultimately there are three types of gifts:
• The Consumable
• The Decoration
• The Active Use
I put together some inspiration for last minute DIY gifts; these are more to generate ideas for that person in your life than an endorsement. Saturate life has zero affiliation with any of the external blogs. Any opinions, tutorials, and images found within the links belong to the curator of the blog. I just enjoyed their tutorials as inspiration because oh god I really need to get these last minute DIY gifts around.
Last Minute DIY Gifts: Consumables
Consumables are the ideal last minute gifts. They are products that are meant to be used up and then disposed of. Things such as wine, cookies, lotions, or candles. These types of gifts are great for those whom you’re not exceedingly close to and are still kind of unsure what they would prefer. It’s not something that is meant to clutter their home; but bring joy or comfort for that moment in their life.
Consumable Last Minute Gift: Make your own Spa Treatment!
Almost Makes Perfect has made a small, personal portion of some exfoliant and bath soak that will help with the stress of not giving something too big. It’s a nice, cute, unique gift for any time of the year or to even keep on hand when you see that someone all frazzled.
Consumable Last Minute DIY Gift: Candles
Once I had a project in school where my material challenge was wax. I hated that project so when it was over I melted the project down and made candles for everyone I knew. It was extremely satisfying and people loved it! Making your own homemade DIY candles is super easy and it makes it easy to get the smell you really want. I love lilac candles but they are extremely hard to find, making them myself was super easy. Get a cute little dish from the thrift store and follow the directions from Man Made DIY : DIY Rustic Masculine Candles. Now don’t be put off just because you have a vagina, this guide is fantastic because there is no need to get dedicated candle making supplies. Some butcher’s string and a penny will do the job just fine.
Consumable Last Minute DIY Gift: Cookie Box
You made your Christmas cookies and now it’s time to give them away! (or you didn’t and just bought them, we don’t judge here) It’s easy enough to put them on a plate but why not present them in this cute little Peek-a-Boo gift box by It’s Always Autumn?
Last Minute DIY Gifts: Decoration
These are for or ornament around the home or person. Things like necklaces, throw pillows, or curios for ornamental purposes. These are some fantastic last minute DIY gift for those who want something one-of-a-kind in their home and life.
Decoration Last Minute DIY Gift: Wall Art
Here is a quick little bit of home decor. It’s easy enough to have a basic piece of artwork on your wall with some contact paper and metallic paint. Shelterness gives us the inspiration to make a marbled piece of wall art with a golden edge.
Decoration Last Minute DIY Gift: Personalized Wire Decor
Have a word that you just associate with someone? I fell in love with those wire wall decors but found the prices way too expensive. Saturate Life as a guide to make a DIY personalized wire wall decor for a more personalized bit of inspiration.
Last Minute DIY Gifts: Active Use
Active use gifts are my absolute favorite type of gift. It’s something that I can use and know I will use. They tend to be a little bit more unique and individual to the person so definitely tricky. The amount of personalization and observation that is required to make an active-use gift might be hard for many people. Active use gift is a gift that they will interact with regularly for a long time and improve their quality of life.
Active Use Last Minute DIY Gift: Yoga Mat Sling
Do you know a yogi who would love a homemade yoga strap? Saturate Life has a Guide for a budget-friendly carrying strap that can be made special for that awesome yogi in your life. No sewing machine required!
Active Use Last Minute DIY Gift: Marbled Mug
This is a pretty popular DIY; but still, a really pretty one to have as a gift. It seems easy enough: Old nail polish, mugs, water. BAM done. However, I’m a sucker for a human. Don’t get me wrong. I love following those amazing ladies that fabulously pull off everything without any sort of indication that they chipped their nail polish but dang, how’d you manage that? I make mistakes; I’m not perfect and nor is Destination Decoration and her adventures in all the ways to make mistakes in making a DIY Marbled Mug. She is helping to make all the mistakes so you don’t have those cause it’s December 21st and damn you don’t have time for those mistakes!
