My husband purchased for me the Fujifilm Instax Mini as a gift for my mental health. This little Instax Mini had clear instructions from him: Capture things that make you happy. Depression is an ongoing issue The Fujifilm Instax Mini was his way of getting me to help clear it up. Solidifying these little moments in an instant small physical portrait of time is something not seen in today’s time.

What do I think of the Fujifilm Instax Mini?
I was a bit confused when I got the camera. I have a cell phone? With a camera? What does this bring me? A Fujifilm Instax Mini is strange to receive as an adult. I grew up after a polaroid period but people had relics of them and showed them to kids. Eventually it was cheaper to get the camera than the film.
The key difference is the physical pictures. There’s no question that my phone takes better pictures than the Fujifilm Instax Mini. But then they’re a digital element amongst the mass cat pictures. When cleaning my room I found a bunch. Memories I almost forgot, more cat pictures, blurry… I don’t know what, and beautiful plants. Little moments captured and naturally framed.
Cute little nephew decided to take a picture of a wall. Not perfect but still lovely. Much like me.
Would I recommend the Fujifilm Instax Mini?
To be honest; I’d rather have the Fujifilm Instax Mini Liplay Hybrid Instant Camera version over the retro.

Don’t get me wrong. It is 100% great device. The retro camera is fun. Finding those little gems of snippets of my life is a delight. In shadow of that of that: I’m still an adult with a phone. I’d like to print photos I have taken with my phone and then the occasional one in person. Ultimately if there was a dual: the Liplay wins for me. The Fujifilm Instax Mini would be best for a little human that is not of age for their own phone.
Part of the appeal of the Fujifilm Instax Mini Liplay is that it is also smaller. 3.4″x4.8″x1.4″ (82.5 mm x 122.9 mm x 36.7 mm) so it’s much more easier to carry with me in my bag since woman’s pockets are useless. The other factor is that the the Instax Mini Liplay is not held to print only what is in front of it the moment the button is pressed. There’s an option to select the best one in a group of photos. The Liplay is more variable and seems more conductive to be creative rather than at the whim.
I’m happier than ever with what I have. It’s a lovely little memory maker.
Thank you for looking at photos with me.
